Basic Rice Milling Processes
Paddy in raw form cannot be consumed by human beings. It must be processed to produce polished rice. Rice milling removes hull and bran from paddy grains, and is the primary process for rice production.
- Pre Cleaning: Removes impurities like dust, straw, sand, clay and heavy particles.
- De-stoning: Separates small stones from paddy.
- Husking: Removes husk using centrifugal principle machines.
- Husk Aspiration: Separates husk from brown rice / unhusked paddy.
- Paddy Separation: Separates unhusked paddy from brown rice.
- Whitening: Removes bran layer and germ from brown rice to white rice.
- Polishing: Improves appearance by removing remaining bran particles.
- Length Grading: Separates small and large brokers from head rice.
- Blending: Mixes head rice with predetermined broker percentage.
- Weighing & Bagging: Prepares milled rice for transport.
- Parboiling: Improves nutritional quality and milling recovery.
